The magic
of the
Dolomites

The Dolomites will be the backdrop to your holiday at Lüch de Costa. They will be the first thing you set eyes on in the morning when you open up the balcony of your apartment, that will greet you when you take a dip in our pool and while you are relaxing in the Jacuzzi.
In 2009 the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These majestic imposing mountains which have enchanted people for centuries have an ancient history to recount.

From the end of the 18th Century the Dolomites were a destination for the early academics. In 1789, one of the most famous, the French  adventurer Déodat de Dolomieu, discovered the stone that was named after him as Dolomite. During the 19th Century the Dolomites began to be acknowledged as a favoured holiday destination for travellers and mountaineers from all over the world.
What gives these mountains their special fascination? What makes these mountains special enough to be given UNESCO World Heritage Site listing is their geological history lasting millions of years, their composition, their form, the landscapes that create amazing light and colour effects that change as the hours of the day pass by.

Walking among these mountains is like leafing through a book telling the story of some of the stages in the evolutions of the earth: fossils of molluscs, corals, echinoderms, sponges and algae provide a record of the time when, instead of towering rocky peaks, the area was a warm tropical sea, or enormous footprints that bear witness to the passing of dinosaurs.
In the midst of all this history and magic, just stop for a moment and take the time to marvel at these enormous stone giants that take on so many shades of red and pink due to the phenomenon of alpenglow.
